Road Network
Hong Kong's road network is amongst the most heavily used in the world. In June 2026, the public road network of Hong Kong is about 2,266 km in total length – 450 km on Hong Kong Island, 485 km in Kowloon and 1,331 km in the New Territories respectively, with over 818,000 vehicles travelling, together with the dense development and the undulating terrain, bringing considerable challenges to the road maintenance works of the Highways Department.
The territory has 2,266 km of roads, 1,550 road structures, 24 road tunnels (including three immersed-tube harbour crossings and a subsea tunnel constructed by tunnel boring) and five major cable-supported bridges.
