"Jockey Club Age-friendly City Partnership Scheme 2020"

The Highways Department’s “Universal Accessibility Programme” (the “UAP”) is honoured to receive the “Age-friendly Facilities Award” under the "Jockey Club Age-friendly City Partnership Scheme 2020" launched by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. The Jockey Club Age-friendly City International Conference cum City Partnership Scheme Award Presentation Ceremony was held on 7 June 2021. The Deputy Director of Highways, Mr Ng Wai Keung, JP was invited to attend the ceremony and received the award for the department (see attached photos). The department’s effort in providing barrier-free access facilities is recognized. The Highways Department has been focusing on the public users’ interests and optimizing the lifts users’ experience in order to improve the elderlies’ accessibility. For instance, the exit and entrance doors of the lifts are arranged right opposite to each other as far as possible so as to help wheelchair-bound persons leaving the lift with ease. Furthermore, extra-large lift buttons are also installed for the convenience of the elderlies and the people in need.

The Highways Department will continue to proactively implement the UAP, with the aim of building Hong Kong into an age-friendly and walkable city.
