Project Objective :
Widening of 6.8-kilometre long Yuen Long Highway from a dual 2-lane to dual 3-lane carriageway.
Description :
The 6.8 km long Yuen Long Highway to be widened connects Tuen Mun and Yuen Long. At present, the highway is operating near its capacity. The highway widening works are necessary to cope with the committed developments in the North West New Territories and the increase in the cross boundary traffic.
The project includes :-
- widening of 6.8km long Yuen Long Highway between Lam Tei and Shap Pat Heung Interchange from dual-2 lane to dual-3 lane;
- modification of existing interchanges and link roads;
- modification of existing bridges, subways and box culverts;
- erection of noise barriers; and
- associated drainage, lighting, retaining walls, slope works and landscape works.
The widening works for the highway section between Lam Tei and Tan Kwai Tsuen are designed and constructed under the Deep Bay Link project.
The widening works for the highway section between Tan Kwai Tsuen and Shap Pat Heung Interchange are constructed under Contract No. HY/2002/19.
