South Island Line ( West )
The South Island Line (SIL) consists of two separate medium capacity railway schemes, the SIL(East) and SIL(West). The SIL(East) is about 7-km long running between Admiralty and South Horizons with three intermediate stations at Ocean Park, Wong Chuk Hang and Lei Tung Estate. The proposed SIL(West) will run between the University of West Island Line and Wong Chuk Hang with three intermediate stations at Cyberport, Wah Fu Estate and Aberdeen.
The Government decided in December 2007 to proceed with the preliminary planning and design of SIL(East). SIL(East) will provide passenger interchange to the existing Island Line, the existing Tsuen Wan Line and the future Shatin to Central Link at Admiralty. There will be provisions at Wong Chuk Hang for the future interchange with SIL(West).
The Government completed the gazette procedure of the SIL(East) railway scheme in accordance with the Railways Ordinance and the scheme was approved in November 2010. The construction of SIL(East) started in May 2011 for commissioning in 2015.
SIL(West) will be kept under review and will be considered further taking into account the traffic condition after commissioning of the SIL(East).
