Construction Commencement Date :

Commissioning Date :

Approved Project Cost ($Million):
6804
Project Objective :
Tuen Mun Road, which forms part of Route 9, is the major link between Tuen Mun and Kowloon. This will be particularly so upon the commissioning of the Hong Kong - Shenzhen Western Corridor / Deep Bay Link in 2007. It has been in service for more than twenty five years and is now in a condition beyond economical repair. Reconstructing the road will minimize repair works, hence disturbance to road users. In addition, the road was designed and constructed in the mid-seventies. There is a need to bring the road up to the current standards as far as practicable.
Description :
- widen traffic lanes from the existing 3.3m – 3.5m to the current standard of 3.65m;
- construct 3.65m wide standard hard shoulders in both directions over the 15.5km length of the road wherever possible;
- improve horizontal curvature;
- improve sightlines;
- improve road superelevation (cross fall);
- replace parapets and roadside barriers as appropriate. Continuous roadside barriers will be installed to separate the carriageway and roadside features such as slopes, retaining walls, buttresses and trees;
- lengthen the merging and diverging lanes at the interchanges at Sham Tseng and Siu Lam; and
- retrofit noise barriers on Tuen Mun Road.
