Submission of Electronic Information to Highways Department Under the Electronic Transactions Ordinance

(I) Introduction

1. To foster the development of electronic commerce in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Electronic Transactions Ordinance (ETO) was enacted on 5 January 2000 by the Legislative Council. The ETO has come into operation on 7 April 2000.

2. Under the ETO, if a person is required or permitted to submit written information to Highways Department (HyD) under Law (Ordinances), then the submission can be made to HyD electronically. The electronic information should be submitted in accordance with the format, manner and procedure gazetted on 7 April 2000 by the Secretary of Information Technology and Broadcasting.
