Project Description

The existing Tung Chung Road (TCR) is the only vehicular access connecting North and South Lantau between Tung Chung and Cheung Sha. In view of the limited capacity and the sub-standard condition of the road, a dual-permit system restricting the number of vehicles using the road is now being operated.

To meet traffic demand up to 2016 and improve road safety, the first stage of improvement works to Tung Chung Road between Pa Mei and Lung Tseng Tau was completed in December 2003. The proposed "Widening of Tung Chung Road between Lung Tseng Tau and Cheung Sha" is the second stage.

The proposed road works will affect the Lantau North, Lantau South and the proposed Lantau North (Extension) Country Parks. To limit the footprint on the adjoining country parks and minimise the impacts on ecologically sensitive streams, we will construct elevated structures and retaining walls along the TCR.
